Frequently Asked Questions
A: Football cleats, shorts or sweatpants depending on the weather, t-shirts or sweatshirts, receiver gloves if desired, and mouthpieces are encouraged for players with braces. Think about sunscreen for your player if we have a bright sunny day.
Q: What should players bring to the sessions?
A: Water! A jacket if it is cool. We suggest NOT bringing cell phones – coaches all have cell phones if calling is necessary. The signed waiver form (click here to download – please print and sign.) Ravens7on7 Waiver
Q: What if it rains? What if there is a thunderstorm?
A: We will play in light rain. We will stop play in the event of lightning and terminate the session, so parents may need to return early. Players can receive shelter in a brick shed at the field. There are no make-up sessions, and from year to year some portions of a session or two may be washed out. Last year all sessions were fully held. This website page will be posted with weather information if we know by 4 pm of a given Sunday that the weather will cancel the session. Otherwise, all weather-related decisions are made at the field.
Q: Does a player need experience to play 7 on 7?
A: No. Coaches will teach all the player how to play 7 on 7.
Q: Can anybody play quarterback? Or tight end? Or wide receiver?
A: Coaches on the field will position players where they will learn and grow the best. It is not unusual to play many positions throughout the sessions, and to try different positions for a bit. But the majority of the training given will be in the positions where the coaches believe the player can currently best grow and mature.
Q: What will players learn?
A: Passing, receiving, and coverage skills are complex and varied. All are taught in 7 on 7. See examples of some of plays and routes in the Downloads section. Your on-field coaches may use different position names or variations of these routes and concepts.
